Decay

My work for the last few years has focused on the notion of there being a certain beauty in things that are decaying, a beauty in the imperfect, focusing on plants and nature, just as we are bombarded today on all sides by that striving for this idea of “perfection” in all things in our daily lives. From this comes a certain realisation and understanding of the transience of things, and that from decay and death comes life.

To enhance the personal interaction with the works, many are small scale, to focus the viewer’s attention on the aesthetic qualities of form and colour, on the beauty of the object as a thing in itself painted as they are on the smooth, marble-like surface of the gesso panels I have prepared myself – little “jewels” indeed.
